MONARCHY Why has it survived the adoption of DEMOCRACY ?
Like Kings David and Oliver, Queen's Elizabeth and Victoria knew, the unity that they saw at times amongst their people was one most of the precious things anyone could experience; and those real people particularly.
I am not talking here about the many Empires that men create but ONLY those created by the miracle of birth and those experiences of UNITY created in the moment.
Those above , who found themselves leaders, more than most, knew it was precious both for how it made everyone feel good , how good it made them feel about their hard work , but also because they learned how fragile and easily lost it normally was.
Monarchy has not only survived, but thrived in the new editions of democracy not only because it contains the seed of sustainable stuff but because it not only stands with the power of the Voices , but it shows the danger of only choosing only what is most popular at the time.
Oliver Cromwell, more than any of the above, knew also of the huge cost. He also knew the huge risk of heredity being a guide. There appears to be nothing inherently good in the hereditary imperative.
Cromwell denied himself the Crown and the next Crown refused to acknowledge his kingship.
He had the honor of uniting the warring tribes of England and witnessed before he died the demolition of the democratic principles he had lived for ; and hoped would set the country on a much more productive and satisfying path .He was the progenitor of the bicameral parliament which is the model of most parliamentary democracies of our day.
Still ,well before our day of cancel culture he was " cancelled ".
Democracy even today, stumbles like the many blind and arrogant persons who dare to tread where angels fear to tread. Let every child know that democracy is fragile .
Our idealism can seems to stand in the way of recognizing a deeper truth ,
"That good times of settled sustainability do not come from one principle, but from a culture which can accept the power and wisdom of having both .
Despite democracies' evolutionary history few advocates accept that good governance is what occurs when we are blessed not by one concept ( eg republic ) or another ( monarchy ) but by a combination of both ideals.
