Would Regional Government really work ?

What do you think ? the main reason for this blog was to start some discussion. Personally , I don't think it would be cost effective mainly because Australia is such a urbanised country, and we can't really afford, humanly and practically to get rid of the States . There is value too in having "More rather than less advice " . The main reason I see for reform is the ongoing risk of a growing rural/urban and independance / dependance culture divide with the current system . Independant Senators, while useful, are not going to be there to secure the long term view is actually in view . Tell me the long term is anyone's view?

If USDA could establish a better framework ,long term , for rural political discussion ( not even happening now even amongst Nats ) I would think about it -Why ? Potential hub of the culture of innovation and long terem research Regional governence may help that ?

What do you think? up to you to add your thoughts please ! Would a sound federation make for an effective, and more reasonable, republic campaign? Copyright EA 10sept 2009

Sept8th 2010 The Independents for 10days have benn reminding australai how good it is to have honest rep and how few we seem to have .
While our electorates are dominated by urban concerns - what hope is there . Maybe the independents should have given notice on the boundaries matter . They could be set on 2 different standards and/or be more fixed in character just as the senate is. Use much wider population counts and less reviews of boundaries in rural areas in particular . Big ask, but what option do we have ? At the moment though more independents is the go !

Surely your point that the current system is at not only a stalemate but stinkingly stupid is relevant in Jan2012
1. Media will ridicule Katter -but he's the key; , if not in content in his correctly targeting careless crap and incompetence by the major parties on country pressures.
2. The huge cost of the worriers in relation to water and other env issues (Murray Darling ) more competently framed outside the cities and their reps (and now Politically Correct bureaus- if U don't hear our concerns you won't get funded! )
3 Parliament is so out of touch at the moment it can't work out what the fuss in the country is all about - tragic!
